What is Zodiac in Hindu Astrology?

Hindu Astrology is Sidereal, means pertaining to stars. Since the stars are fixed it is also called Fixed-Zodiac. Zodiac is the imaginary broad circle in the heaven.

There are no pillars and poles in the zodiac to locate or identify a particular point. From times immemorial Hindu Astronomers have identified particular regions in the Zodiac by means of fixed constellations (No. of fixed stars grouped together, नक्षत्र समूह)।

Hindu Astrology is primarily an astrology based on constellations. The zodiac is covered by 27 constellations. There are numerous constellations in the zodiac but to identify a particular position or location in the zodiac these 27 constellations are treated as permanent pillars and poles.


Without any such aid it would become impossible to describe the zodiac in regard to a particular point.
